10 Things to Pack for a Weather-Smart Festival Day

Wednesday, May 7, 2025 - 8:39am

With the 2025 Cheerwine Festival just 10 days away, now is a great time to start thinking about how to prepare for a full day outdoors in downtown Salisbury. As the official forecast provider for the event, Rowan County Weather is here to help you stay comfortable, safe, and ready for anything the skies may bring.

Here’s a weather-smart packing list to make sure your Cheerwine Festival experience is a great one:

1. Sunscreen
Even with cloud cover, UV rays can be strong in May. Apply before you arrive and reapply throughout the day.

2. Refillable Water Bottle
Stay hydrated! Bring a bottle you can refill throughout the festival area. Dehydration is common during long days in the sun.

3. Lightweight Poncho or Compact Umbrella
A quick shower or pop-up thunderstorm is always possible in May. A small poncho or travel umbrella fits easily in a backpack.

4. Comfortable Shoes
You'll be walking a lot. Closed-toe, comfortable shoes are the way to go for navigating busy sidewalks and vendor areas.

5. Hat or Visor
A wide-brimmed hat or breathable visor will help shade your face and neck while standing in line or enjoying the music.

6. Sunglasses
Don’t forget eye protection! Bright conditions and pavement glare can wear on your eyes by midafternoon.

7. Portable Phone Charger
Between snapping photos, checking the festival map, and watching updates from Rowan County Weather, your battery will drain quickly. Bring a charger or battery pack.

8. Hand Wipes or Sanitizer
Great for cleaning up after food and drink or before eating. Many vendors offer finger foods and festival fare.

9. QR Code Screenshot of the Festival Map
Save or screenshot the event map so you can quickly find stages, vendors, restrooms, and the First Aid station.

10. Lightweight Towel or Blanket (Optional)
Planning to watch a concert or relax in Bell Tower Green? A small blanket makes for a comfortable seat.

With this checklist and Rowan County Weather’s daily forecast updates beginning May 12, you’ll be ready for whatever weather comes your way on Saturday, May 17. We’ll keep you informed so you can focus on the music, food, and Cheerwine fun!
