South Rowan Softball Advances Past Concord in SPC Tournament

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 - 8:39am

South Rowan softball opened postseason play in impressive fashion Monday night, defeating Concord 8-2 in the first round of the SPC Tournament at home.

Pitcher Remi Haggarty led the way for the Raiders, throwing a complete game and carrying a perfect game through the first four innings. Haggarty worked efficiently, retiring the first 12 batters she faced before Concord was able to break through in the fifth. Even after Concord’s brief rally, Haggarty remained composed, limiting the damage and securing the win for South.

The Raiders broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning. Lexie Ritchie started the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a two-RBI double from Nora Wheeler. Carmen Thomas laid down a bunt single that brought in another run, and South kept the momentum going with smart base running and clutch hitting to build a 7-0 lead by the end of the frame.

Concord responded with two runs in the fifth, but Haggarty and the South defense kept control. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth added an insurance run, pushing the Raiders' lead to 8-2.

South Rowan now moves on to face West Rowan in the SPC semifinals. First pitch is set for 4 PM Tuesday at West Rowan High School, where Raiders head coach Jimmy Greene will look to secure his 200th career victory.
