As families across Rowan County celebrate Easter today, it’s the perfect time to take a look back at some of the most memorable Easter weather moments in our history. From chilly surprises to unseasonably warm afternoons, Easter Sunday has brought a little bit of everything to our area.

Easter 1970 – Snowflakes and Surprises
On March 29, 1970, Salisbury residents woke to an unexpected sight: snow flurries in the air. Though no measurable snow stuck around long, it was one of the few times Easter Sunday flirted with wintry weather in our area. The high that day? A chilly 47 degrees.

Easter 1993 – After the Storm
Just weeks after the infamous "Storm of the Century" (March 12–13, 1993), Easter Sunday arrived on April 11 with soggy grounds and temperatures in the 50s. Flooding was still a concern in parts of Rowan County that had seen over 6 inches of rain earlier that month.

Easter 2007 – Summer Sneak Peek
By contrast, Easter 2007 felt like summer showed up early. With a high of 89 degrees, it remains one of the warmest Easter Sundays on record for Rowan County. Church-goers swapped sweaters for short sleeves, and egg hunts moved into the shade.

Easter 2020 – Quiet Skies Amid a Quiet Holiday
April 12, 2020, marked an Easter unlike any other—celebrated at home due to the pandemic. The weather mirrored the stillness, with calm winds, fair skies, and a high of 68 degrees. Many remember it not just for the weather, but for how quiet Salisbury and surrounding towns felt.

Easter 2023 – The Perfect Forecast
April 9, 2023, gave Rowan County a picture-perfect Easter: sunshine, a high of 75 degrees, and light breezes. Local parks, church lawns, and family porches were filled with pastel colors and laughter—a true example of spring at its finest.

What Will Next Year Bring?
