Saturday, April 12, 2025 - 8:59am

Spring in Rowan County means more than blooming flowers and longer days—it means celebrations. From sparkling prom nights to proud graduation mornings, the coming weeks are packed with memorable milestones. But with spring weather comes uncertainty, and Rowan County Weather is here to help you plan around it.

Prom Season Forecast

Here’s when each high school is rolling out the red carpet this spring:

  • East Rowan HS: April 5

  • North Rowan HS: April 12

  • Jesse C. Carson HS & Salisbury HS: April 26

  • South Rowan HS: May 3

  • West Rowan HS: May 10

With most proms falling in April and early May, we’ll be watching for classic springtime weather—mild temps, sunny skies, and yes, the occasional pop-up shower or storm. If your photos are outdoors, keep an eye on our forecasts for real-time radar updates and suggested windows for dry skies and golden hour lighting.

Graduation Dates & Locations

Graduation ceremonies kick off on May 21 and run through May 23, with most events scheduled for 9:00 AM:

  • May 21:

    • RCCC (Keppl Auditorium): RCEC

    • WRHS (BOE Room): HIS & EHES

  • May 22:

    • ERHS, JCHS, NRHS, SRHS: On-site ceremonies

  • May 23:

    • SHS: SHS Stadium

    • Summit: RCCC Amphitheater

    • WRHS: WRHS campus

Morning ceremonies mean cooler temperatures, but late May also brings rising humidity and a higher chance of scattered thunderstorms. Our advice:
Hydrate early
Bring a compact umbrella just in case
Plan photos for pre-ceremony lighting

What the Weather Models Say

  • Late April: Cooler-than-normal temperatures likely

  • Early to Mid-May: Warming up with more spring storm potential

  • Late May: Near-average temps, but isolated afternoon storms possible
