Near record heat expected in Rowan County as April begins

Wednesday, April 2, 2025 - 9:25am

Rowan County, North Carolina, is experiencing an unseasonably warm start to April 2025, with temperatures approaching record highs. With my latest forecast, high temperatures could reach 84°F on Friday, just shy of the county’s historical record of 90°F for this time of year, set in 1934.

This warm spell aligns with broader climate patterns in the region. Rowan County typically experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot, muggy summers and milder winters. The average high in April is around 72.4°F, with average lows of 46.5°F.  However, recent forecasts indicate temperatures exceeding these averages, suggesting a temporary deviation from typical conditions.

Residents should also be aware of elevated pollen levels during this period of warm weather, which may affect individuals with allergies. Additionally, the increased warmth and humidity could lead to occasional rain and thunderstorms, particularly as the weekend approaches.

It’s advisable for residents to stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated and minimizing outdoor activities during peak heat, to ensure safety and comfort during this period of near-record temperatures.
