Severe Weather Possible This Weekend

➔ Severe thunderstorms will impact the region Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
➔ The main threat will be for damaging winds and tornadoes. A strong tornado cannot be ruled out.
➔ A chance for action stage or minor flooding is possible in areas with multiple rounds of rain.
➔ Strong winds ahead of the system for the entire area is expected on Saturday.

 

  • Strong non-thunderstorm wind gusts are expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning ahead of any thunderstorms.
  • Mountain Gusts: 40-55 mph, with higher gusts above 4,000 ft.
  • Gusts Elsewhere: 30-40 mph
  • A wind advisory may be needed for the mountains.
  • Locally heavy rainfall is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning as thunderstorms move across the area.  
  • 1-2” of rain is possible with locally heavier amounts, especially where multiple rounds of storms occur.
  • Confidence is increasing for minor to action stage flooding for portions of the Western mountains and NE Georgia
