As we get closer to the end of the work week. The timing of the rain is remaining the same. The chance for thunderstorms remains the same. However, the potential accumulation is dropping.
The areas shaded in light green on the map above have a general thunderstorm risk for Friday. As you can see Rowan County is not shaded. That is somehting we will continue to monitor to see if any changes or shifts occur to bring the potential for thunderstorms to the county.
The timing for arrival of the rain comes around 4 - 5pm during the afternoon and evening commutes. Rain should be out of the county and off to the east by 7 or 8pm.
Early in the week accumulation chances appear we could see around half an inch of rainfall around the county. As of the latest model runs both the NAM and the National Blend of Models (both pictured below show a chance of around a quarter of an inch of rainfall at best for the county.
The consistent good news is we have the chance of much needed rainfall Friday. Hopefully we can get a swing in potential rainfall totals to give us more rainfall on Friday than currently expected. The new drought monitor comes out tomorrow and it is likely we will see some locations around the county with a upgrade in drought status showing conditions worsening around the county. Rowan County Weather will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as we close out the week.
