Friday, February 2, 2024 - 10:58am

The month of January has come to a close and for some of us the month seemed to last for years while others say it went by very fast. Overall, the month was a roller coast ride for temperatures. The highest temperature in the month of January was 71° tied for the 44th warmest day on record in Rowan County for the month of January.

The month of overall, was average in terms of temperatures with an average temperature of 42° tied for 58th warmest on record for the county.

Total rainfall for the month of January was at 7.83 inches of rainfall. Making it the fourth wettest on record for the county behind the wettest January on record back in 1936 with almost 11 inches of rainfall for that year. 1937 and 1925 also had more rain in the month of January.

As of the time of this blog post we are in the month of February, and it is Groundhog Day. We have yet to get any snow this winter and our snow drought continues. What will the month of February hold for us? Only time will tell.
