Another round of severe weather is on tap for Friday afternoon and evening

Thursday, January 11, 2024 - 11:14am

As we continue to dry out from our last weather event from this past Tuesday. Rowan County braces for yet another round of severe weather for the afternoon and evening hours of Friday. A slight risk for severe weather has been forecasted by The Storms Predictions Center for most of the county with a marginal risk for portions of the northwest corner of the county along the 1-40 corridor.

Conditions early Friday will be fair giving way to increasing cloudiness and breezy conditions as winds pick up ahead of the front that will move through the region, area and county over the next 24 - 36 hours.  Rain chances will begin to increase after 4pm Friday afternoon with winds increasing to gust of around 40 - 50mph by Friday evening.

This could lead to more power outages around the county as the soil is already saturated and root systems weakened from this past Tuesday's heavy rains and winds. We will not see as much rain with this system with potential rainfall accumulations of a half an inch to an inch being likely. However, because of the saturated soil around the county localized flooding can't be ruled out once again.

Rowan County Weather will continue to monitor the system and provide updates right here on out website, social media platforms, WSRG-TV and pass along important weather information to the Salisbury Post as well to ensure as many citizens are aware of the changing weather conditions.
