How many 90° days have we had in 2023 and how long before stays below 90°?
It has certainly been hot lately but for much of the year we did not see highs in the 90's. As a matter of fact, we did not see our first 90° or high temper this year in Rowan County until July1st. That's almost two months past the average high of 90° or more in the county which typically falls on or around May 12th. We have had only twenty 90° so far this year tying us for eleventh fewest of all time with 1974. We will certainly add to that total a few more times over the next few weeks especially this week with a shot at crossing the 90° threshold. We have four chances at getting at least 90° or more for the high this week. After that the average number of days in the forecast for highs of 90° more drops to once every weekend and a half. On average the last day of the year here in Rowan County that we hit a high of 90° is September 16th, there have been nineteen times since records in Rowan County began in 1893 that we have had highs of 90° and above in the month of October with the latest being on October 23rd, 1941.
