Last year, the two sides split the season series. Atlanta United won the first-ever match between the clubs on March 13th in a 2-1 victory, but North Carolina native Adam Armour scored CLTFC’s first-ever goal from a corner kick. Charlotte FC then won at home 1-0 thanks to another corner kick goal, this time from Jordy Alcivar’s “olimpico” bypassing everyone and sailing straight into the top corner.
Charlotte FC have dropped two tough losses to start the season, first a last-minute 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution in front of 69,345 fans and then a 3-1 loss to St. Louis CITY SC in which Enzo Copetti opened his CLTFC account.
Atlanta United, meanwhile, have a win and a draw to show for their opening two games, both of which were at home. Thiago Almada scored two stoppage time goals to salvage three points against the San Jose Earthquakes in the opener. Atlanta then drew Toronto FC 1-1 last weekend.
