Three Tropical Systems in the Atlantic

Sunday, September 17, 2017 - 8:37am

The tropics continue to be active. There are currently 3 storms out in the Atlantic right now and at this point none of them pose a threat to the county. Let's take a look at the three storms.

Category 1 Hurricane Jose

Jose will continue to remain off the east coast and will only have effects on the beaches with rip currents and beach erosion. There is nothing for us to be concerned with in the county from Hurricane Jose.

Tropical Storm Lee

Tropical Storm Lee at this point is expected to weaken over the d=next few days and become a Tropical Depression. Now that doesn't mean this storm will die completely and we will be done with it. However, conditions are not favorable for this storm to remain active.

Tropical Storm Maria

If there is a storm n the Atlantic that should keep our attention its Maria. This storm is expected to have an impact on the islands that Irma just finished battering and this storm is expected to strengthen into a Hurricane. There is still a long way to go with this one but with the westward track through Friday this storm will be getting close to the southeast coast if the track holds and that will certainly need to have our attention.

I will of course monitor these storms and keep you updated right here and on social media as these storms continue to move and be active. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather
