Total Solar Eclipse Forecast Update 8/19/17
We are now just 3 days away from the Total Solar Eclipse! The good news now is we can begin to use short range models to determine how good our viewing will be. As of right now things look pretty good for the viewing of the Total Solar Eclipse. Starting with the rain chances.

By 2pm Monday about 1 hour into the partial eclipse timeframe where the moon will be partially blocking the sun. The only rain chances look to be very isolated in the mountains. I would give us right now about a 20% chance of an isolated shower or storm during the Eclipse here in the county. That's pretty good and definitely in favor of us getting to see a good view of the Eclipse from a rainfall standpoint.

Going to have to keep an eye on a stalled front along the coast that could cause cloud cover to come into play to our south and east. If you are traveling away from Rowan County to view the Eclipse.. You will need to check the local forecast for the area you are traveling to. If you want a more accurate forecast. Do not rely on the Weather Channel for that information. Find out who the Meteorologist are in the area you are traveling to and check their forecast. You will get a much more reliable forecast from them than you will from the Weather Channel.

The High temperature at 1pm on Monday looks to be around 89º that's going to be worth keeping an eye on. The temperature is expected to drop around 20º during the Eclipse. We could see temperatures fall into the low 70's by the peak of the Total Eclipse.
Please remember if you are viewing the Eclipse and planning to look directly at it. You will need the Eclipse Viewing Glasses. This is only if you plan on looking directly at the Eclipse. I will continue to provide forecast updates for the Eclipse right here leading into the Eclipse. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
