Rain chances continue today

Wednesday, June 14, 2017 - 8:40am

We had some severe weather move through yesterday afternoon and the trend looks to continue this afternoon. I feel we will see more of the same conditions with lots of thunder and lightning. Heavy downpours and possible small hail. There is a high pressure system to our east that continues to weaken. As this is occurring it is increasing the threat of an unstable atmosphere that brings storm chances . Expect rain to move into the county in the afternoon and evening hours during the commute home.

CAPE levels are a little elevated based on model data for this afternoon. So that will give any storms a chance of becoming severe as they move into and through the county.

The models are struggling to get a handle on the potential for accumulation with these storms. I would not be surprised for areas of the county to see a chance for another inch or more of rainfall with any storms today. It is also likely you don't see a drop of rain at your house.

I will continue to provide updates as always right here and on social media throughout the day as the storms approach and move through the county. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
