The Drought Has Ended For Rowan County

Thursday, January 26, 2017 - 9:02am

Yes if you read that title you can see that drought conditions have been completely eradicated for Rowan County. The picture below released form the climatology office this morning shows we are completely drought free in the county. Areas to our north and west shaded in yellow are in abnormally dry conditions. As you move southwest through the state the ares in tan are in moderate drought conditions while the areas in more of a copper color are in severe drought.

For the month officially we have had 4.48 inches of rain in the county. Combine that with the official 4.9 inches of snow that was measured at the airport earlier this month it has been a very beneficial month for the county in terms of precipitation. For the month and the year we are 1.92 inches above normal for rainfall. For snowfall on the month and the year we are currently 2.8 inches above normal here in the county. All of this water has to go somewhere and it has back into our lakes, streams, rivers and the water supply. Great news for all of us here in the county!
