Arctic Air Is Moving In

Thursday, December 8, 2016 - 2:33pm

It has been a chilly Thursday but the Arctic Cold Air is moving into the county now and things are going to get down right cold! As of 2pm we were sitting at around 49º around the county.

However, the temperature is going to start to bottom out from this point on and you will notice a dramatic difference over the next 12 hours as temperatures plummet around the county. By 8pm tonight the temperature will be down to 38º

The good news is the winds even though they will be out of the northwest at least they will be fairly light. The wind chill will become a factor though. At 8pm tonight the wind chill will be around the freezing level.

Things continue to get colder form there. Look where we will be at as we transition form Thursday into Friday. Temperatures at midnight will be around 33º

The wind chill at midnight will be under the freezing mark and right around 30º

The clouds will be very minimal in the sky which will continue to allow heat to escape from ground level and continue to help the temperature drop even more before the break of dawn on Friday morning.

Please stay bundled up over the next 36-48 hours as temperatures will struggle to get back above 40º Lows will be right around 20º and possibly even some upper teens around the county. Remember your pets and elderly neighbors as well! Make sure they are warm.As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
