Weekly Drought Update 9/29/16
The rain has certainly returned for us over the course of this week. However, not enough to pull us out of the abnormal drought conditions we have been facing over the past few weeks. The good news is the southeast corner of the county is out of the drought.

We did get some decent rainfall over the past few days that has certainly helped eat away at the deficit. Currently for the year we stand at 24.73 inches of rain. Putting us on pace for the 5th driest year on record here in the county. The driest year to this point since 2007.
The month we are currently having the 50th driest September on record so at least that's promising. The fall season even though it has just started is at least not going to go down as the driest Fall season on record for the county as we have already passed that mark.
How we stack up for the year continues to be a little interesting
- Pretty much right on average for the high temperatures we have experienced for the year to this point
- 2º above normal for the low temperatures on the year at this point
- The overall average temperature is just over 1º above average on the year to this point. (Basically due to the warmer nights we have had this year.)
- Rainfall accumulation is where we continue to be getting beaten. 7.48 inches below normal on the year. Still plenty of time to make it up but we need some good rainy days more often than we have had to continue to eat away at the deficit
I will provide another drought update next Thursday and will continue to do so until the entire county is out of the abnormal drought conditions. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather.
