Abnormally Dry Conditions Return

Friday, September 16, 2016 - 7:23am

Is your lawn starting to look like the title image in this blog? Sadly enough there is a reason for that. We are lacking rain in a big way in Rowan County for the year. We have not had any measurable rainfall in the county for 13 straight days now and the chances are pretty slim for the weekend. For the month of September we are below normal by 1.12 inches. For the year we are below normal by 7.91 inches. This has placed us back in an abnormally dry drought condition throughout the entire county.

My forecast for this weekend does call for some isolated showers on Sunday and Monday but lets be honest we are only looking at minimal accumulations around the county. We are on pace for an extremely dry year unless we can get into a wet pattern over the next few months to finish out the year.

As you can see above we are currently in the midst of the 5th driest year on record. Now we remember how dry last year was going into October. Notice you do not see 2015 on the list? Over the next 7 days things do not look any better as a matter of fact the chances for rain are almost non existent. The model image below is showing us being below normal in rainfall over the next week here in the county.

I will continue to post updates on the drought conditions every Friday until we get back out of it. Just remember as history has shown us. It will rain sometime. It's just a matter of when and how much. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
