Rain with Torrential downpours possible today.

Sunday, August 7, 2016 - 10:15am

If you are heading out later today and this evening. Make sure you have the rain gear. A low pressure system is going to setup and interact with a cold front moving through the area today. The main issue is that front is going to stall in the southeast. depending on where the front stalls will have a huge impact on how much rain areas will get. Let's take a look at what to expect here in Rowan County today.

The high will. be in the upper 80's to around 89º

There is a lot of moisture in the air. The dew points will be in the mid to upper 70's today making the outside air feel uncomfortable.

I am expecting rain to move into the county later this afternoon and evening. Most likely once it gets started it will be very widespread with the possibility for torrential downpours.

One concern I have is the CAPE is going to be high in the area which could trigger some strong to severe storms with hail. The bigger threat is localized flooding.

Accumulations in the county could be as high as 4 inches in some areas of the county today.

I will provide updates right here and on social media throughout the day as showers and storms begin to fie in the area and move toward the county. Please do not drive through standing water on the roadway.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone! As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
