Afternoon and Evening Storms Possible

Monday, July 11, 2016 - 10:45am

The good news is we got the benefits of a dry weekend. The bad news is it appears storm chances are ramping back up for this afternoon and evening. I am tracking the possibility of strong to severe storms this afternoon with damaging winds and small hail as main threats. Let's take a look at how the weather may unfold for us today.

First of all the high temperature today will be around 91º

The Dew Points will be in the Oppressive range again as we are going to be in the low 70's

This afternoon and evening I would say around the time for the commute for many of us from work to home. Things will start to get stormy. Main threats are damaging winds and small hail

The concerns I have are once again with the amount of CAPE in the atmosphere this afternoon as those levels are a bit high

This will likely be the energy to generate some of those damaging winds and small hail threats that are possible this afternoon and evening.

Accumulation will range from a quarter of an inch to over an inch in places. The accumulations in the models are showing a bit high with the threat for hail in this storms today. That's typical since models can not differentiate between frozen and solid liquid.

I will continue to monitor the radar and models throughout the day and provide updates as storms begin to form and move toward the county.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
