How did May treat us and where are we for the year?

Now that we are in the month of June and working through the halfway point of the year. Let's take a look back at May and also where we are overall for the year.

 

As we began the month of May we were

  • 1º above normal for our average temperature on the year
  • 5.98 inches below normal in rainfall for the year
  • On Pace for the 20th warmest year on record
  • On Pace for the sixth driest year on record.

All of the fields mentioned above are specifically for Rowan County.

So what did May bring us?

  • Our highest temperature in the month of May was May 28th at 88º
  • Our lowest temperature in the month of May was May 16th at 40º
  • Our wettest day in the month of May was May 3rd 1.25 inches of rain fell that day.
  • Our average temperature for the month of May was 65.4º (This is -0.4º below normal)
  • We had a total of 6.25 inches of rain putting us above normal for the month of May by 3.04 inches

May will go down in the record book as the

24th coldest May on record for the county

 

May will go down on record as the 6th wettest May for the county.

 

 

How did this help us for the year?

Currently 2016 is the 26th warmest on record for the county

 

 

2016 is currently the 21st driest year on record for the county

 

 

As far as normals go here is where we stand at the end of May for the year.

  • 1º above normal for our average temperature on the year
  • 2.94 inches below normal in rainfall for the year
  • On Pace for the 26th warmest year on record
  • On Pace for the 21st driest year on record.
