Saturday Weekend Weather Update

Saturday, May 28, 2016 - 12:26pm

I hope you are enjoying this Saturday during the Memorial Day Weekend. Lot's to address with the weather so lets start first and foremost with today.

Saturday

As you can see from the animated Satellite Image below the short range models are not expecting much in the way of rain for us today.

High will reach the mid 80's today looking for a high of 84º by 4pm.

Dew Points will be the key to how comfortable it feels outside today.

Dew Points in the upper 50's will keep the air feeling comfortable outside today so this will be a good day to get out enjoy the day.

Sunday

The big story for Sunday is will the rain affect the running of the Coke 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway? That depends on your impression of if you want the race to start on time and run in its entirety. I do think the race will start a little late and run the risk of a few delays that could affect the full running of the race.

Isolated showers are possible in the are around midday tomorrow. I would not expect a washout by any means. You just can't rule out the isolated showers from rain bands associated with Tropical Depression #2

A few isolated storms are possible around the time for the green flag of the race. I would plan on going to the track if you have tickets and plan on seeing some racing it may be starting with a delay or have a few interruptions along the way. The question is will it be a full 600 miles. Only time will tell.

High temperatures tomorrow will be in the low 80's looking at 81º at 4 pm tomorrow.

The dew points will be high because of the moisture in the atmosphere. In the upper 60's it will feel a little uncomfortable at times tomorrow so stay hydrated if you are at the track.

Memorial Day

Rain will still be a possibility for your Memorial Day but the impacts will not be as effective as Sunday. Look for isolated showers from time to time with very little in the way of accumulation

Temperatures will top out around 82º for the high.

Dew Points will be in the upper 60's once again making it feel uncomfortable at times if you are outside.

Tropical Depression #2

The key factor in our weekend weather is this tropical storm out in the Atlantic. This storm is expected to make landfall in South Carolina today. The concern should not be about where the center of circulation arrives the real impact will be the rain from this system.

Most of the spaghetti plots pictured above show this storm making landfall in South Carolina then hugging the coast. If this track holds true we will see less rainfall as most will stay to our east. If that does occur that's the best bet for the fans heading to the 600. However, if the storm drifts to the west and moves a little further inland the rain impacts will be felt in our area. I will continue to monitor the models and provide forecast updates as we go through the Memorial day weekend.

If you want a sure day of getting outside and having some fun. Today is the day as the others remain up in the air.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
