Tuesday Morning Weather Update

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 - 10:34am

What a wild ride May has been so far with rain, hail and thunderstorms! Well today is going to continue that same trend. Let's take a look at how that will setup for us.

I am looking for a few breaks in the clouds today to provide some sunshine to the county. The concern with that of course is the instability that already exist in the atmosphere just intensifies with sunshine mixing into the fray. I think highs today will top out in the upper 70's today.

The showers and storms will move in during the afternoon hours I am looking for a line to develop and move out of the mountains in the mid to late afternoon hours around 4 pm.

These storms will trek to the east and begin to move into the county right around the time of the evening commute.

Areas in the western side of the county could see some small hail develop in these storms as they make their way into the county.

Storms will continue to move east through the county and bring the chance of some gusty winds and lightning with them as well.

I do believe we clear out around the 7 - 8 pm timeframe tonight so the little ones may actually get a good night of sleep tonight. (All of us Parents too!)

As far as rainfall accumulation goes I am looking for around a quarter to a half of an inch being possible. The good news is right now the hail threat is not a large as it was yesterday but the threat is still enough to expect the chance of some small hail in areas of the county today.

I will post updates right here and on social media throughout the day. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
