Thursday Midday Weather Update

Thursday, April 28, 2016 - 12:23pm

The models are continuing to trend toward what could be a very interesting evening commute. As a line of storms are expected to move into the county later the afternoon and evening. I am going with heavy downpours and small hail as the main threat for this system.

As we head into the late afternoon and early evening hours this is what I am expecting to occur.

We will see storms and showers move in from the west that will bring the potential for heavy downpours and small hail.

As we transition from late afternoon to early evening we will see the chance for storms to intensify and make the small hail threat possible.

We should start to see clearing around 8 pm or just there after.

As far as total accumulation I am looking for around a quarter of an inch in most areas around the county. The model below shows some elevated levels. However, models have a difficult time differentiating between liquid and solid precipitation so I think the hail possibility is what has amounts showing around 2 inches in some areas of the county.

I will continue to post updates here on the website as well as on social media throughout the day.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
