A wet Tuesday on tap

Monday, April 11, 2016 - 9:26pm

We are currently on pace for the driest Spring season in history for Rowan County. With only 1.38 inches total so far this Spring.

The good news is we will take a pretty good shot at eating into that deficit tomorrow. As we begin the hours for the morning commute I expect what I will refer to as wave one of rain to move into the county. The model image below shows 6 am.

Rain will continue off and on throughout the day and then it will really start to pick up in the afternoon hours. This is a model for 2 pm tomorrow afternoon.

I am expecting the rainfall to come to an end late in the evening commute timeframe. As you can see from the image below the models show rain moving off to our east by 6 pm.

Based on model images I am looking for rainfall totals around the county between a half and three quarters of an inch.

Now if you remember that first image I showed of our total rainfall so far this Spring season. If these totals come in as expected it still only puts us at around 2.5 inches total for the Spring season. This would still keep us on pace for the driest Spring season on record for Rowan County. If you caught my blog post for the Spring Outlook that I posted here on this site a few days before the Spring season started. I predicted a dry Spring season. If there was ever a time I would want to be wrong it would be during a forecast period that looks dry. Unfortunately this season is playing out as I expected.

We are already pretty dry for the year as well. Resulting in us being in an abnormal drought once again early in the Spring Season.

We are currently dealing with the 3rd driest year on record for Rowan County to this point in the year.

While we need rain and plenty of it. We will have to take things one rain shower and system at a time. Let's hope tomorrow is the begriming of some really good soaking storms to come through this Spring Season. I will post another update in the morning on any changes as the system is moving through. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
