A cold start to Wednesday

Monday, April 4, 2016 - 7:48pm

As you may have noticed on the events page. There is a freeze watch in effect for Wednesday morning. As you can tell from the main image of this blog the temperature at 5am on Wednesday morning will be around 35º A cold northwest flow of air pushing through behind a cold front will bring the temperatures very close to freezing Let's take a look at a timeline from late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning of how the temperatures are likely to be.

Day/Time Temperature
Tuesday 11pm 43º
Wednesday 12am 41º
Wednesday 1am 39º
Wednesday 2am 38º
Wednesday 5am 35º
Wednesday 8am 36º
Wednesday 11am 47º

As you can see above it is going to be very cold overnight. I would suggest if you have outdoor plants to cover them really well or bring them in. If the northwest flow of air comes in a little stronger than expected we could easily dip below freezing for a brief period of time Wednesday morning. Of course don't overlook your outdoor pets and check on elderly neighbors or relatives.

Not really any kind of prolonged effects to worry about with the cold air as it will be a brief period but always good to prepare any tender vegetation you already have planted. I will post another update tomorrow about how the models are trending and what the temperatures could drop down to as we get closer to the evening hours tomorrow night.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
