A look back at March and the year so far

Friday, April 1, 2016 - 9:15am

As we begin the month of April I want to take time to recap what impact March has had on our totals for the year and historically.

Let's start first of all with the average temperature. This March was the 10th warmest on record with an average temperature of 56.9 degrees. Less than 5 degrees off the warmest Rowan County March on record of 61.1 set back in 1945

This was the 3rd driest March on record for the county with only a mere 1.20 inches. Only trailing March of 1965 & 1893.

As you can see with both of these totals in the top 10 on both categories this can't set us up well for how the year is tracking. So let's take a look at how we are with both of these categories through the end of March.

Currently for the year we are in a 4 way tie for 59th warmest on record. Less that 10 degrees below the warmest year on record to this point.

With the limited precipitation we have gotten so far this year and the rating we had in March overall through recorded history it sure didn't help us on yearly totals to this point. 2016 is currently the 3rd driest on record to this point.

If you read my blog post about the outlook for Spring the concern is still very much there for me that this is going to be a very dry Spring season. If you haven't read it yet. Please click the link below to be taken to that post.
