Latest update on Thursday & Friday

Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 7:10pm

Hi everyone! back with a update on the storm system moving in on Thursday and Friday. The timing of the system continues to change ever so slightly. Also starting to see more of a definitive idea of when strong storms could arrive in the county. Let's take a look first at when the rain should start.

As of right now it appears we will begin to see rainfall move into the county around 4pm Thursday afternoon. We could see a few isolated showers before then but I believe the real start to this event will be around that 4 pm timeframe.

We should see nothing more than rain Thursday night and into the early morning hours of Friday. It's Friday morning when things start to get a little interesting. I think around 8am we will see a line of storms move in that will most likely be strong and could be severe as well. Straight line winds are possible. Right now I am only seeing gust around 25-30 mph. Localized flooding of course could be an issue with heavy downpours during this time as well.

If the timing works out the strong line of storms should be off to the east of the county around 11am. So a tight three hour window we need to watch on Friday morning where things could get a little interesting.

It looks like for the most part we see a break in the action in the afternoon hours on Friday however there are some models suggesting that we could see a few overnight showers into the morning hours on Saturday. I am not quite sold on these particular showers yet but certainly do not want to rule them out.

As far as plans for Friday evening. If you are heading out to the Downtown Salisbury Scavenger Hunt from 5-9pm. I believe this event will stay mostly dry. There could be a few off and on isolated showers but not enough to miss this event.

I will continue to monitor the models as they come in and post updates on this upcoming weather system. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
