I release my Long Range Winter Forecast every year on Halloween Day. This past October I decided rather than typing the forecast out I would make a video and post it to YouTube.
If you watched the video I predicted 3-5 inches for the county this winter. So how much did we officially get?

So I over estimated by around in inch for the low end of my forecast. The amount of snowfall we received this winter ranked us at 57th on the overall least amount of snow ever recorded in Rowan County. However, if you like to see snowfall every winter in the county this keeps a 7 year streak alive of measurable snowfall in the county.
How did this past winter rank overall in terms of average temperature for Rowan County?

So as you can tell we ended up with a 5 way tie for the 25th warmest winter on record in the county.
In my long range forecast I stated we would see highs between 40 & 50 degrees most of the winter and lows in the 20's & 30's with some occasional cold snaps. So for the temperature I was pretty spot on.
I predicted we would most likely see snow in the last 2 weeks of January and the first two weeks of February. When did we get snowfall?
We received a tenth of an inch on January 17th.

And two inches on January 22nd.

So there you have it. That's how we stacked up this winter. As for my overall prediction released on Halloween Day last year. I will let you be the judge on how well you think I did.
I will release a blog post in the next day or two about how I think we will fair this Spring & Summer with upcoming weather.
Until then. As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
