A warm end to the week gives way to cold air and rain early next week

Wednesday, February 17, 2016 - 9:27pm

With temperatures and sunshine on the increase for the rest of the week a taste of spring fever is possible. However, a cold does of reality and wet weather is possible to start of next week. Looking at models for early next week rain chances start to ramp up on Monday. We will start out the day with a 30% chance of morning showers and those chances ramp up throughout the day to 60% by Monday night. Based on the model below along with some early data around four tenths of an inch of rainfall accumulation is possible

.

The rain chances continue to rise on Tuesday to 70%. It is very possible based on the model below along with early data we could see an additional six tenths of an inch of rainfall accumulation on Tuesday.

If you think about those totals we are looking at the possibility of an inch or more of rainfall accumulation in just the first two days next week. Additional model data continues to hint at more wet weather as the week continues.

All in all I would just enjoy the remainder of this week and let's see how the models shake out over the next few days. You may be seeing some hype of possible winter weather next week as well. Honestly, I would not trust any models for precipitation and accumulation over 5 days out. The models tend to struggle with accumulation totals this far out.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
