A Winter Storm Watch will go in effect Monday morning at 1am and is set to be in effect until 7pm Monday night. We will see the storm start of as snow and transition over to sleet and freezing rain before transitioning over to all rain at some point during the day on Monday. The good news is whatever ice and snow accumulates once the rain begins to fall that accumulation will begin to melt. Here my latest thinking on what to expect.
There is a 90% chance of a wintry mix that will occur on Monday.Snow is likely to move into the area during the overnight hours. The air may be dry enough at first that snow will have a hard time making it to the ground for the first few hours. I expect we will see snow being to make it to the ground around and fall through around midday on Monday. Accumulations of around a trace to an inch and a half is possible. The biggest challenge is how long it will take the snow saturate the air and make it to the ground. Around midday we should start to see sleet and freezing rain mix in as the snow begins to taper off. Ice accumulations of around 0.1 -0.10 of an inch are possible. As of now this would be enough to disrupt travel and make the roads very slick but power issues should be minimal as the typical ice threshold for power lines is .25 of an inch. Rain will being to mix and and take over during the afternoon to early evening hours on Monday and begin to melt the snow and ice that would have accumulated early in the day. Rainfall accumulations of around a half inch are possible.
