If you have been outside any this Saturday you have obviously felt the persistent pesky drizzle that falling. Later tonight that drizzle will turn into rain and bring the possibility of thunderstorms with it.
If you have enjoyed the sunshine today you were not alone! However, rain chances are going to start ramping back up for the weekend. Saturday you will have time to get out and enjoy some outdoor activities but as we close in on the evening hours rain chances increase pretty quickly.
Now I know by now most of you have already been awake and read my forecast for today. You must be thinking ok weatherman are you off your rocker? You said it would be sunny today and it's just after 8 am and all I see are clouds.
The models are continuing to trend toward what could be a very interesting evening commute. As a line of storms are expected to move into the county later the afternoon and evening. I am going with heavy downpours and small hail as the main threat for this system.
We have already started to get a few isolated showers around the county this morning. That trend will continue off and on throughout the day. I would not expect a total washout by any means but certainly keep the rain gear handy.
As we begin our transition into the late afternoon and early evening hours. Let's take one more look at what to expect tonight for rain and storm chances around the county.
Since my last update this morning the models have made some adjustments with the heating of the day. Based on current data we could see some showers and storms develop during the early evening hours. Here is my latest thinking,
I eluded last night in a post that we would see rain move into the county late tonight. At that time I also stated that we would see nothing like the folks in tornado alley are seeing. That still holds true today and I feel confident will remain that way over the next several days for us.
I know that seeing the severe weather in the Midwest right now can be a bit unnerving. I wanted to take a moment to let you know how this system will affect us by the time it arrives in Rowan County.
It has been a wet Friday to this point with isolated showers, some heavy at times falling around the county. As we head into the afternoon hours I wanted to give you an idea of what to expect through the rest of the day and into the early morning hours of tomorrow.
