Why snow is not likely Thursday into Friday

Wednesday, March 2, 2016 - 9:43pm

So tonight I have been getting a lot of inquiries about the potential for snow in the county Thursday into Friday. I can tell you based on what I am seeing that does not look likely at all. The model that is showing as the title photo for this blog is the European Model for 7am Friday Morning. As you can tell most of the snowfall is going to be confined to the mountains and areas along the NC/VA border. Nothing for Rowan County.

Below is the European Model for rainfall Friday Morning at 1am. As you can see just based on this model our rain chances look more favorable than snow.

The temperature at 1am Friday is going to be 43 based on the Euro.

At 7am the temperature according to the Euro is 38

Here is another model called the GFS at 7am Friday morning. Again snowfall seems to be contained to the mountains and the NC/VA state lines with nothing in Rowan County

Out of the main models only the North American pictured below is showing snowfall accumulation for the county. Even at that it's less than an inch.

The point I am trying to make is. Anyone can show you a model and tell you it's going to snow. However, in this case there's only one model and it is even not showing much of anything. The best chance of precipitation tomorrow night into Friday is rain. As always I will continue to track the models and update the forecast but snow is not likely.

As always thank you for following Rowan County Weather!
